The  National Trail Byways Website is  a grass-roots collaborative established to help recognize, preserve, and enhance selected roads and national and international historic heritage trails.

 The National Trails and Byways   represent the scenic depth and breadth of states across America's , waterways, canals, monuments, parks, rivers,  and man-made panoramas; historical homes, United States Presidents and First Ladies, landscapes;  battlefields,  colonial and modern history coming alive; historical monuments, museums and culture; friends, families and strangers sharing their stories.

National Trail and Byways are gateways to historical adventures, no two national trails experiences are the same. The  National Trails and Byways Program invites you to come along, experience the birth of America, its independence, growth and democracy.

Lauzun's Legion Historical Maps

Lauzun's Legion was a French Regiment in the American War for Independence: Lauzun's Legion principal engagements were White Plains 1781, and Yorktown.

Lauzun's Legion was a specially constructed unit that was formed in March 1780 from various detachments of French and many foreign volunteers in the French army and navy.  The National President of the National Society & Friends Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historical Trail played a pivotal role in renaming the "P Street Bridge" in Washington, D.C.----Lauzun"s Legion Bridge.   Much of the Legion was composed of units from the Volontaires "angers de la Marine created in September 1778 by the naval minister Gabriel de Sartine, and propriire' status had been granted to Armand Louis de Gontaut, duc de Lauzun.  What remained in France, along with the duc de Lauzun, was reconstituted as the Volontaires-angers de Lauzun, and was part of Rochambeau's expedition.
